Al Jazeera no longer available

After a series of mail exchange between Al Jazeera and Code of Zero and finally also with Apple intervening we have been forced to take down the Al Jazeera application from both AppStore and Android Market.

Al Jazeera claims that our usage of their brand, name and logo is copyright infringement. We have however explained our stance to both Al Jazeera and Apple stating that our application merely works as a parser by reading from a RSS feed Al Jazeera has publicly published on their website, parsing their YouTube channel using Google’s own official API for parsing of YouTube channels and providing a button to stream their live TV stream from LiveStation in the built in media player of the iPhone and Android.

We are working on releasing the Al Jazeera application under a different name and logo however Al Jazeera has so far failed to reply with a clarification of what they consider as copyright infringement and what we are allowed to use in our application. Negotiations are ongoing with both Al Jazeera and Apple and we hope we will reach a conclusion which is benefiting for all parts.

At the end of the day we are passionate developers who wish to code and provide high quality apps to make life a bit simpler and nicer and are not interested in bureaucracy or causing any problems. We have even offered our application to Al Jazeera since it is doing very good on AppStore and Android Market but they have declined. Thus if no agreement is reached we will sadly have to leave the idea of an independent Al Jazeera app altogether.

We would like to thank all costumers for their downloads and apologize for any inconvenience which this might cause. In the mean while do check out our Press TV app (iPhone | Android) instead which does all that Al Jazeera does and provides excellent news of the World and Middle East as well!

Really too bad! It was truly an EXCELLENT PRODUCT! I MISS IT!

But I do have “Press TV Mobile”.

Code of Zero, “Rules”! (love that name – it’s mysterious)
